Timothy Lee Ferguson, 63, of Smithfield, VA, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025. Born on April 5, 1962, he was the beloved son of the late Ernest and Gloria Ferguson.
Tim is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Delores Mae Ferguson, and their daughters: Ashley Vangel (Chris), Katie Ferguson (Anthony DaSilva), and Elizabeth Ferguson (Brian Bryant Jr.). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Alexis Cartledge, Abigail Neely, Jaxsen Cartledge, Sophia DaSilva, Anthony DaSilva Jr., and Violet Vangel. He is also survived by his sister, Marie Alexander.
He was preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Amanda Ferguson.
Tim was born and raised in Poquoson, VA, where he met the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Delores. They married in 1982 and built a life full of love, strength, and shared dreams. One of their greatest accomplishments was the home they built together—a true labor of love and the heart of countless cherished family memories.
Tim was a devoted father who took immense pride in raising his daughters to be strong, capable, and independent. He taught them everything from how to change a tire to how to track a deer, often sharing time outdoors in a tree stand or running dogs, making memories filled with laughter and life lessons. Later, his grandchildren brought him even more joy, and he loved nothing more than telling them stories of his younger days and the adventures of raising their mothers.
A man of few words, Tim’s quiet wisdom and unwavering work ethic left a lasting impression on all who knew him. For 44 years, he worked at Newport News Shipyard, where he earned the distinguished title of Master Shipbuilder. He was especially proud of having contributed to every carrier in the Ford Class, including one his father had also worked on.
Tim will be remembered for his love of family, his integrity, and his quiet strength. His presence was a grounding force, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and hard work.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Wesley Chapel Church, 220 Kings Hwy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a wildlife conservation fund in Tim’s honor—reflecting his lifelong love of the outdoors.
