Thomas Robert Pennington, Sr.

Thomas Robert Pennington, Sr, 63, of Smithfield passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024.  He was the son of the late Charles Robert Pennington, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Harris Pennington.  He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Esther Elliott Pennington; daughter Ashlee P. Fesser (Craig); sons, Thomas Robert Pennington, Jr (Stephanie), Christopher Charles Pennington, Kasey Andrew Pennington, Carl Wayne Rains; grandchildren, Richard, Madison, Skylar, Christopher, Thomas, Oliver, Riley, Jaxon and Grace; sister, Sherry Candia (Stephen); brothers, Alan Pennington, Donald Pennington (Judy),  and Charles Pennington; and several nieces and nephews. 

Thomas, also known as Bob, a humble man from rough beginnings who managed to overcome insurmountable obstacles to become a God fearing, hard working, loving husband, dedicated father and amazing grandfather. He worked hard without expectations, to provide and give his immediate and extended family the time and experiences he was never given himself.  

He retired from Pepsi-Cola Co. in 2023 as a long haul truck driver. On top of working multiple jobs to support his family, he served the community for many years by coaching youth sports, volunteering with the boys RA group and teaching Sunday school. He spent his free time camping, fishing, and taking his wife for long rides on his Harley. He loved spending time with his family and watching his grandkids play sports. His favorite professional sports teams were the Washington Redskins, and Washington Nationals.  

His family will cherish the memories of him while knowing that they will one day see him again.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024, 3 p.m. at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
