Teddy Ray Tyner

December 30, 1955 — July 9, 2020

Teddy Ray Tyner, age 64, of Carrollton, VA lost his battle with cancer Thursday, July 9, 2020.  Teddy died peacefully at home with his family at his side. Born December 30, 1955 in Honolulu, Hawaii, he was the son of Barbara J. Leggett Taylor and the late Henry T. Tyner. He is survived by his wife Barbara Ann Danshire Tyner, his two sons Aaron David Tyner; Andrew Paul Tyner; his two grandchildren, Levi Boyette and Jaxson Cromer; his sister Barbara E. Tyner and his cats Tinkerbell and Rocco. Ted graduated from Warwick High School, attended Thomas Nelson Community College and Horizons Technical Center.  After working at the Newport News Shipyard as a shipfitter, he later received his certification as Construction Quality Control Manager from William & Mary. He worked at Chienelli Building Corp (CBC) as an Electrical Supervisor and Quality Control Inspector; W.M. Schlossner; and lastly Syncon LLC, Construction Superintendent, Quality Control Manager. Ted had "happy feet" as he loved to dance; but as much as he enjoyed music and dancing, his favorite past time was to fish.  It made no difference whether he was fishing from the shore, off the dock, or from a boat, he loved it.  In a newspaper article, because of a huge tuna catch from the Oregon Inlet, his name was listed as Teddy "Tuna" as a joke from his friends.  He would greet you with a "flounder shake."  He took a course in scuba diving and received his PADI diving certification because he wanted to scuba dive in Florida with his brother-in-law and to "swim alongside the fish."  He received several North Carolina Fishing Tournament Citations: 1978 White Marlin released, 1984 Tuna 63 lbs., 1984 White Marlin 53 lbs., and 1986 Tuna 91 lbs.  Ted would dream of the day he would retire and spend his time with his family and the sport he loved so much, fishing. Ted's life ended too soon.  He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, 11 a.m. at Little's Funeral Home, Smithfield.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com.
