Ted Raymond Wolinski, 86, of Smithfield, VA, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022. He was the son of the late Stanley and Stella Wolinski. Mr. Wolinski was also preceded in death by his wife of 39 years Lola “Frankie” Frances Thompson. He is survived by his daughters, Jeannette Heagy (Harold), Susan Paul, and Mary Hillanbrand (Scott); sons, Michael Wolinski (Barbara), Paul Wolinski (Darlene) and Ted S. Wolinski; grandchildren, Scott Jr, Ted (Violet), Andrew, Frank, David, Curtis (Lindsay), Kaitlyn, Isaac, Rachel, Jonathan, Julia (Andrew), Amy, Bethany and Bradley; great grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth, Sophia, Hannah, Ted Jr., Olivia, David and Emma; and his sister, Maria “Monia” Kucharczyk.
Ted was a leap year baby, born on February 29, 1936. Growing up, “Tadz” was well known in the Polish community of East Baltimore in Maryland. He was the last of 15 children born to Polish immigrants and spent his childhood summers picking fruit and vegetables in Pennsylvania. As a young man, he worked for the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company before starting his own company, T & F Electric and later, Delta Construction company. He was honored to have been part of the renovation of the Broadway Market and the old B & O Warehouse for construction of Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
Ted was a devoted husband and loved his family. Picnics and Sunday drives were commonplace. He was proud of his Polish heritage and taught all his children cherished traditions passed down through the generations. He loved to joke around and sing and would often burst into song usually from a favorite musical number. An amazing cook, he passed that love of cooking to his children. It was not uncommon for him to cook enough food to feed his friends and neighbors.
In his latter years, Ted moved to Gettysburg, PA and then to Smithfield, VA where he lived with his daughter Mary and her husband Scott. He was lovingly known as Grandpop to his grandchildren and great grandchildren and took delight in being a part of their lives. He lived a full life and loved deeply. He will be missed but never, ever forgotten.
