Tammy Kaye Helmick

Tammy Kaye Helmick was born in Portsmouth, VA on December 5th, 1961 to her parents Robert Helmick from Sea Level, NC and Marilyn Salter from Norfolk, VA. Growing up in Willoughby Spit, VA , Tammy attended Granby High School. After high school she married the love of her life, David Smiley from Norman, OK.. Due to her husband's work they traveled and relocated to many cities on the east coast from Brooklyn, NY to Mayport, FL, and on the West Coast from Bremerton, WA to San Diego, CA. For more than thirty-four years Tammy lived in San Diego and always referred to this city as her home. Tammy was a professional bartender. Tammy's passion was finding items at garage and estate sales and later reselling those items. Tammy returned to the East Coast in 2018 to be with and care for her aging parents. Tammy died peacefully on August 11th, 2022 with her family at her bedside. Tammy is survived by her daughter Stephanie Smiley-Johnson who lives in Clarksburg, MD, her son Matthew Smiley who lives in San Diego, CA, their Father, David Smiley who lives in San Diego, CA, her Sister Latrisha Allen who lives in Norfolk, VA, her son-in law, Richard Johnson, her daughter-in-law Samantha Preble and lifelong family friends Damien Jenkins and Gordon "Buck" Buchannon.
