Sharon "Sheri" McGrath Lewandowski

January 2, 1940 — September 29, 2023

Smithfield

Sharon "Sheri" Lewandowski made her journey to heaven on September 29, 2023.  Born to Frank McGrath and Florence Zins in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Sheri recently came to live in Smithfield to be close to her family.

She is survived by her brother Patrick and her loving husband of 52 years, John Lewandowski. Their daughter Deborah Hallahan and her husband Scott have three children: Grace, Erin and Alexander which made her a proud grandmother.

Sheri studied nursing in Des Moines, Iowa and with an adventurous spirit, left home at 19 to begin her career in Chicago, Illinois.  Nursing was her passion, and throughout her long career she worked in many aspects of the hospital from the ER to ICU, home care to the NICU.  She Moved to San Diego, California where she worked for Scripps Institute and eventually met and married John.  Together, they settled in Littleton, Colorado and raised their daughter.

As mentioned, Sheri had an adventurous spirit, adopting the handle "Terminally Curious".  She loved people and would often strike up conversations with anyone who was interested in chatting for a while.  She was also incredibly talented and loved to work with her hands.  She sewed clothing for herself and family, knitted wool socks, painted, learned silversmithing, and most impressively, she carved wooden birds with striking detail.  She also loved to garden, but being the free spirit she was, her gardens were wild flower gardens, planted with a beautiful variety to attract the birds she also enjoyed so much.

John and Sheri were also very involved in their church.  They helped to design, plan and build Light of the World Catholic Church in Littleton, Colorado.  They helped to bring the Stephen Ministry to their church and were active in many other programs there.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Bon Secours Hospice in Suffolk, in thanks to their superb care.
