It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sean Locascio, of Smithfield, VA at the age of 52. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Sean is survived by his three children, Taylor, Brooke, and Josh; brother Dominic; father Jerry; his Surry Power Station family; and local community where he served in multiple different roles.

Sean took the greatest of pride in his family and the accomplishments of his children, as well as his work family, where he was well-loved, as evidenced by the endless parade of visitors during his prolonged illness. Raised in the NY city area, Sean never forgot his roots (or lost his accent), although he came to love his Virginia home.

After his graduation from Waterville HS in New York, Sean joined the US Navy where he took great pride in his service to our country as a nuclear machinist on the USS Enterprise. When he completed his service, he continued to live in Southern Virginia, where he met and married Jannette Green (deceased) to whom he was married for over 20 years.

His childhood love of the New York Yankees led him to a long involvement in youth softball as a coach and volunteer. He was extremely committed to teaching his love for the game to anyone who was willing to listen. Just last week, he was baffled by the change in little league rules and wanted to have a conversation with someone in charge. His love for anything New York sports led him to travel with family and friends to see as many stadiums as he could over the years.

Even in the hospital, he would bat his eyes at people to get what he wanted, negotiate the medical plan for the day (aka, getting ice chips when he was not yet supposed to), find softball friends, share stories, and sometimes give former players errands (sorry to the nurses who used to play for him who then had to take care of him).

Sean will be dearly missed by all that knew him. His generous heart, community spirit, warm sense of humor, and unrelenting loyalty made him a firm friend to all who knew him. Whether it was helping on a house project, visiting a sick coworker, or doing whatever it took to make sure that his children were loved, supported, and safe, Sean was relied on by many and he always could be counted on to go above and beyond. Sean was a rock, a joy, and a friend.

It goes without saying that these last 11 months have been challenging for Sean medically. We want to ensure that every nurse, doctor, physical therapist, occupational therapist (or as Sean would say, OP), respiratory therapist, and speech therapist (we want to apologize to the ones he was not happy with) knows how appreciative he was, and his kids are. He attributed every extra day with his family to them and their care of him.

His service will be held at 2pm on May 17th at Little’s Funeral Home located at 1515 S. Church Street, Smithfield, VA 23430. Family will receive friends following the service. There will be a celebration of life on Sunday May 18th, details to be released.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in his name to APS Foundation of America, Inc. (apsfa.org) to assist with research in addressing Antiphospholipid Syndrome
