Ruth Ann Downing

Ruth Ann Wood Downing, 93, of Smithfield passed away on Saturday July 23, 2022.  She was the daughter of the late Milton Henry Wood and Nolia Meretta Turner Wood.  She was also preceded in death by her husband Woodrow Wilson Downing.  Mrs. Downing is survived by her daughters, Karen M. Perkins and Marsha D. Smith (Anthony); grandchildren, Kelley, Bradley and Christopher; great grandchildren, Hallie, Addison, Tyler, Alexis, Kaden and Finley; and her sisters, Juanita Greene and Rochelle Yoder (Gene).  She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Nicolas Perkins and Dustin Smith; and a sister, Vivian Marshall.  She was member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Suffolk and a former volunteer at Riverside Convalescent Nursing Home.  A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, 3 p.m. at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice.
