Rudy is survived by his children Julie Roberts of Huntington Beach, CA and Catherine Sweeney & husband Mark of Portland, OR; Grandchildren Justine (Sweeney) Cosman & husband Evan of Portland, OR and Brook Sweeney of Williamsburg, VA; Great Grandchildren Ava & Zara Cosman and Raymond Sweeney. He was preceded in death by his son Mark Roberts and the love of his life, wife of 58 years, Virginia “Ginger” Goodrich Roberts.

Rudy was born Rudolph Peter Ralbovsky, Jr. in Johnstown, NY and grew up in the Bronx, NY. He was in the first 4-year graduating class from Cardinal Hayes HS and the first graduating class of the U.S Coast Guard Academy (1950) that trained on the sailing vessel USCG Barque Eagle. During his Coast Guard career he was the first CO of Loran Station Miyako Jima, last CO of the CG Cutter Dione and the first XO of CG Cutter Mellon, among other sea and shore duty assignments. He retired after 21 years of service and moved with his family to Morristown, NJ where he worked in various management positions with Con Edison, where he retired in 1985. He and Ginger moved to their final home in Williamsburg, VA in 1995 to be closer to family, especially their grandchildren.

Rudy enjoyed golfing into his late 80’s, playing card games - especially bridge, sharing his Master Gardner knowledge and volunteering with several organizations, including tutoring in Math and English as a second language, AND completing the daily NY Times crossword puzzle. Finally ~ He and Ginger are back in each other’s arms dancing away into eternity.

Arrangements are being made by Little’s Funeral Home in Smithfield, VA and he will be interred at the Old Brick Church (Bacon’s Castle, VA). A celebration of life will be scheduled in the future.
