Rodney Keith Burch

Rodney Keith Burch, 64, of Smithfield passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024.  He was the son of the late Lee Oliver Burch, Sr and Shirley Maxeen Wade Burch. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Linda Lee Cook. Rod is survived by his wife of thirty years, Viki Burch; daughter, Christina Leigh Marley (Chris); sons, Justin Keith Burch (Brandy) and William Jacob Goodwin; grandchildren, Devin, Kenley, Dominik, Derek, Katie, Trey, Chloe and Liam; a brother, Lee Oliver Burch, Jr (Marsha); niece, Christi Burch Hunt; nephews, Marty Parsons, Scott Cook and Brandon Cook; his father-in-law, Paul Pruitt; and his beloved English Bulldogs, Gus and Sug. 

 Rod was an employee of Newport News Shipyard as a pipe fitter.  He retired after 37 years of service. Rod’s love of animals was surpassed by no one. He opened and co-owned D.O.G.’s Daycare & Spa in Smithfield with his wife Viki. How else to have so many pets to love on. Rod’s interest were diversified to say the least. First and foremost, his love of family topped the list, spending time laughing and joking. Rod loved all things outdoors, motorcycle riding with friends and his wife was a favorite.  Boating and waterskiing was in his blood.  His father taught him about water safety and all the fun things. Working in his yard and flowers, enjoying the scenes from the back deck, beautiful flowers and all the birds that visit.  He was a craftsman that loved to find solutions when projects didn’t quite work out. Rod will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, and silly antics.  His favorite treat on a hot summer day was strawberry ice cream.  

 A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, 2 p.m. at Hope Presbyterian Church.   The family will receive friends at a reception following the service at the church.  A private burial will be held at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk, VA.
