Robert Lee Lane

Robert Lee Lane, 92, of Smithfield passed away on June 8, 2017 with his family by his side. Robert was the son of the late Fletcher Beedles Lane and Mary Ida Latimer Lane. He is survived by his daughters Susan L. Maltby and her husband David, and Barbara Lane Kopotic, four grandchildren, Wendy M. McClure, Christopher Maltby, Lauren Gangaware, and Erin Betler, and 7 great-grandchildren. Robert had retired as an Electrical Supervisor at the Norfolk Naval Yard and he was a veteran of the US Army Air Corp and Army National Guard. He was also preceded in death by his grandmother Annie Whitley Batten, and brothers, James and Fletcher. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverside Healthy Living Communities and Riverside Hospice for their care and kindness during the past year. Visitation will be held in Trinity United Methodist Church, on Saturday June 17, at 2 o’clock p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Jeff Cannon officiating.
