Norma Ring Garner

Norma Ring Garner age 92, born May 5, 1931, passed away after a brief illness March 10, 2024. Norma was a longtime resident of Smithfield, Virginia after relocating from Kinston, NC. Previously a resident of Hereford, Tx and Oklahoma City, Ok.

She was a faithful member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Smithfield, Va. and a longtime member of The Ladies Bible Class serving as the president of the class for many years. She was very active in local activities and worked at The Christmas Store in Smithfield until she resigned to babysit her grandson, Allen. She was active with a small walking group for years made up of several of her girlfriends. Norma was a volunteer with the Salvation Army for many years.

Her door was always open, and she took in those that needed a home or just a temporary place to stay. She was always full of laughter and full of witty banter. Norma was most proud of her American Indian Heritage where she was a member of the Chickasaw Nation.

Norma is survived by her brothers Billy Dawn Ring of Oklahoma City, Ok, Jesse and Sue Ring of Eufaula, Ok, Ronald and Karen Ring of Blanchard, Ok, two daughters Shelley Garner and Jimmie Garner White, both of the home and her only grandson James Allen Minton also of Smithfield.

After a long and full life, she now joins in heaven, her husband Jim Garner, her parents Bill and Beulah Ring, siblings Glen Ring, Carolyn Thompson, and Bonita Wade.

Little’s Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Smithfield are in charge of the arrangements.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank her many friends for their kindness shown to her during her last few years and expressions of sympathy can be made by form of donation to Bethany United Methodist Church.
