Having made the most of a century on this earth, Nell Morgan Stowe 100 of Williamsburg transitioned to the church eternal on July 12th 2026. She is survived by her son, T. Dru Stowe and wife Karen Laurelle Stowe of Smithfield, Virginia, her grandchildren, Nathan William Stowe of San Diego, California and Virginia Morgan Formella of Camden, North Carolina, and her two great granddaughters, Hannah Elaine Formella & Morgan Joanne Formella. She was predeceased in 2002 by her husband of 42 years, Ted Stowe of Belmont, NC.

Nell was born in Asheville, NC to Dr. Bernice E. Morgan and his wife Juanita. She attended Wheaton University where she obtained a degree in Christian Education with a minor in Dramatic Interpretation. From there she went on to teach Bible and English in public schools Virginia and North Carolina.

During her years in Belmont, NC she was very active in the life of First Presbyterian Church. She was an elder, choir member, moderator of the Presbyterian Women, and award-winning Sunday School teacher. In town she was a long-time member of the Tuesday Afternoon Book Club and Home and Garden Club. In both, she served in various capacities including President. She was also a founding member of the Belmont Habitat for Humanity Organization. Since 2003 she has made her home at the Williamsburg Landing Retirement Community where she enjoyed tutoring at the local elementary school, singing in the chorus and serving on the resident’s board and library committee. Her life was characterized by gratitude, commitment to family, and service to others.

A memorial service will be held in the Charter Room of Williamsburg Landing Assisted Living, 5500 Williamsburg Landing Drive on Monday, July 27th at 10:30 a.m. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Williamsburg Landing and dear nurses from Home Health Care without whom we could not have gotten through these final years.

The funeral will take place on Thursday, August 6th in Belmont, North Carolina at First Presbyterian Church, 102 South Central Avenue, Belmont, N.C. The service will be held at 11:00 a.m., followed by a visitation with the family.
