Battery Park

Michael Earl Carver, born on August 18, 1948, in Roanoke Rapids, NC, passed away on July 2, 2023, in Battery Park, Virginia.

Michael attended the college of William and Mary and received both a bachelor's degree and master's degree in French graduating with honors. Following completion of his education at William and Mary Michael lived in Paris for a year teaching languages at the Sorbonne. He returned to the United States in 1976 and settled in New York City where he studied acting while working in various famous New York restaurants including Tavern on the Green and the Four Seasons. In 1980 Michael decided to give up acting and attend law school at the Cardoza School of Law in Manhattan. Following graduation in 1983, Michael practiced real estate law with a specialty in helping investment bankers make commercial and residential real estate investments. He and his business partner Steven Polakoff then took the risk of moving to Miami Beach in 1988 and ran a very successful real estate investment, management, brokerage, and rehabilitation company named Vintage Properties, which between 1989 and 2000 bought and renovated and managed and/or converted to condominium ownership 32 apartment buildings in the art deco section of Miami Beach which is now today called South Beach. Michael continued to renovate mid-century modern single-family homes in the early 2000s while raising his daughter Lizzie. In 2009 Michael returned to Battery Park, Virginia with his daughter to undertake caring for his elderly mother, Nettie Carver. Aside from his career in raising his daughter, Michael's other lifelong passion was the prevention of cruelty to animals, and over his lifetime Michael rescued hundreds of dogs and cats and was active in the William & Mary alumni association.

He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Carver, and his brother, Richard C. Carver. He is preceded in death by his sisters Linda Hanson and Susan Edwards and his parents Earl C. Carver and Nettie Stewart Carver.
