Michael Tracy Batkins, Sr.

Michael Tracy Batkins, Sr., 67, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Carrollton VA on December 5, 2023. Born August 22, 1956 in Norfolk, VA, Mike was raised in the Hilton Village community in Newport News, VA. He was part of the Hilton “Gang” and had many lifelong friends from those younger days. He also had many long time friends from Warwick High School where he graduated from in 1974.

 The majority of Mike’s career was spent as a journeyman electrician. He would routinely point out buildings and complexes that he had wired in numerous Hampton Roads cities and would proudly tell stories of each job.

Mike loved to deer hunt and became obsessed with golfing in his late thirties. He always regretted that he hadn’t started golfing at a much younger age because he was extremely skilled in the game. Mike also enjoyed target shooting which he would do often in his backyard, although it had to greatly annoy the neighbors at times because it annoyed his own family.

Mike is predeceased by his adoptive parents, Wellford Warthan Batkins and Jeanette Lowder Batkins; his birth parents Jack Dean Murphy and Ina ‘Mickey’ Mateo; half-brothers Jackie Murphy, Jeffrey Murphy and Buddy Danley; and conservative ally and brother-in-law Russell DeWitte Allison, who passed a mere three and a half weeks prior to Mike. Mike is survived by his wife LeeAnn Kathryn Allison Batkins, son Michael Tracy Batkins, Jr., daughter Allison Elizabeth Batkins, precious granddaughter Bella June Batkins, and very special friend Belinda Hann. He is also survived by many other relatives from the multiple families that he felt so fortunate to be a part of.

Mike experienced chronic back pain from degenerative disc disease for over two decades; he is now free forever of all pain and in eternal peace. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, 2 p.m. at Little’s Funeral Home, 1515 S. Church St., Smithfield, VA
