Mary Ruth Sorenson

Mary Ruth Sorenson, 58, of Smithfield passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2022.  Born on January 31 1964, she was the daughter of Mary Millar Dick Sorenson and the late Lloyd “Sonny” Sorenson.  She worked at Newport News Shipbuilding until she retired in January of 2020, adding to the now four generations of Sorenson shipbuilders. She worked as a welder and nondestructive inspector with an intense passion for her work, aptly earning her the nickname “Ruth Mighty Mouse”. That passion extended to the love she showed the friends and family that surrounded her. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister. She is survived by her daughter, Crystal S. Dean and her husband Alexander; son, Gregory Kevin Greene and his wife Daniele; grandchildren, Lukas and Elliot; a sister, Lucy S. Gore; and brothers, Lloyd R. “Skip” Sorenson and William D. Sorenson and his wife Julie.  A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 11,2022, 2 p.m. at Littles Funeral Home.
