Martha Haywood Slaughter

July 13, 1935 — September 15, 2021

Martha Virginia Haywood Slaughter, 86, of Chesapeake, originally from Mathews, VA, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.  She was the daughter of the late Charles Haywood and Irene White Haywood.  She was preceded in death by her husband William Preston Slaughter, Sr. She is survived by her sons, William Preston Slaughter, Jr. and Charles Allen Slaughter; grandchildren, Dustin Lee Slaughter and Michael P. Sullivan and Brandy; great grandchildren, Madelyn, Halley and Kristen.  A longtime member of Faith Baptist Church, and a 25 plus year employee of Portsmouth Public Schools.  A woman who gave it all for her children and grandchildren.  She was a band manager for her oldest son, managing and supporting his early days in music.  She loved the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed watching the Braves and Yankees on TV.  Also, an avid supporter of her sons and grandchildren at any sporting event and musical event, no matter where it was. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, 2 p.m. at Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA. Followed by a reception to be held at Dock of the Bay II in Carrollton, for visitation and fellowship with the family. Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com.
