Martha Powell

Martha Brown Powell, 93, died October 30, 2019.  She was the daughter of Robert Elmer Brown and Josie Lee Whitley Brown.  She was predeceased by her husband, James Melvin Powell; daughter, Sylvia Jean Powell; son, James Melvin (Bubba) Powell Jr.; her parents and three brothers.  She is survived by her daughters, Jacqueline Smith of Smithfield and Patricia Starnes of California; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.  A sister, Bess B. Cochran (Steve) of Florida; brothers Glenn Brown (Cathy) of Kentucky and Joseph Brown of Smithfield; special sister-in-law, June Powell Adams (Stan) of Fredericksburg and many nieces and nephews.  Family will receive friends at the home.  A graveside service will be held at Battery Park Cemetery,  Tuesday, November 5, 2019, 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 97, Smithfield, VA 23431.
