Margaret Moody Jones, 72, of Smithfield passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Nelson Parker Moody Sr. and Rita Lee Walker Moody. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Horace “Butch” Garns Jones, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Maggie Jones Swan (Brandon) and Holly Suzanne Potter (Mike); grandchildren, Alexis, Alex, Liam and Skylar; brothers, Nelson “Junior” P. Moody, Jr. (Shannon), John “Johnny” R. Moody, Sr. (Jean), Charles “Red” W. Moody, and S. Dawson Moody (Lacey) and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

 Margaret spent some of her career working at Isle of Wight Social Services, but the majority of it was spent working at Suffolk Probation and Parole, where she retired in 2013. She was a member of Smithfield Baptist Church and played piano for Isle of Wight Christian Church for many years. Margaret was a very kind, giving and loving woman who was always willing to do anything for anyone and help whenever she could. She loved her family deeply and was an animal lover as well. Other than her family, her heart belonged to the mountains, in Lexington, VA, where she had lived beginning in 2016.

 

 A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Smithfield Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at a reception in the Family Life Center.
