Malcolm Ireneaus Sporer

January 30, 1931 — October 23, 2017

Malcolm Ireneaus Sporer, Sr. 86 of Smithfield passed away on Monday October 23, 2017 with his family by his side. He was born in Bradford, PA to the late Ireneaus Henry Sporer and Viola Martina Lauer Sporer. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Virginia Lee Sporer, his children Cidnea Causey (Ray) of Avon, NC, Daria Murphy (Steve) of San Diego, CA, Malcolm I. “Rocky” Sporer, Jr (Joanie) of Hampton, VA, Jennifer Casher (Doug) of Fredericksburg, VA, his grandchildren Airan, Kasey, Theresa, Mike, Josh, Allen, Rette, Brad, and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Keough. Mal proudly retired after 20 years of service in the United States Air Force, where he was a Dental Lab Technician. Following his Air Force retirement he worked in the private sector as a Dental Lab Technician for 13 years and then enjoyed a 20 year career with Publix Grocery. Mal was a member of the American Legion, Air Force Sgt. Association, and the VFW. A service will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield VA. The family will receive friends from 5 – 6:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be sent to Monastery of Poor Clares 5500 Holly Ford Rd, Barhamsville, VA 23011.
