Loyd Grey Shelton

Loyd Grey Shelton, 78, of Smithfield, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022. He was the son of Carl Flanagan and Helen Louise Stout Flanagan. Mr. Shelton is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janice Ann Strack Shelton; daughters, Sonia Michelle Lindsay and Amanda Erin Dillon; grandchildren, Nathan, Nicholas and Nash; and a sister, Carol McCarthy. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Shirley “Sue” Rea. He was born in Damascus, VA, where he loved to return home to the mountains and especially ‘Backbone Rock’. He raised Koi in fishpond at home, and loved spending time with his family. A memorial service will be on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, 1 p.m. at Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery.
