Jeanette Turner Johnston

February 16, 1936 — June 21, 2022

Lois Jeanette Turner Johnston, 86, of Smithfield passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.  She was the daughter of the late William Elton Turner and Edna Clifton Luter Turner.  She is survived by her sons Lloyd Rea Johnston, Jr and Gary Johnston; a granddaughter Kristen Nicole Miller, also known as her pride and joy, and husband Jason; great grandsons Cole, Chase, Casey, and Caleb “CJ”; a sister Marie Ashby (Larry); and daughter-in-law Karen Johnston.  She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Rea Johnston, Sr. and a son Charles S. Johnston.

Jeanette's passion in life was her role as mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Anyone she met knew all about her family, especially her great grandsons, as she would share all about them and likely pull pictures from her purse. As a nearly lifelong resident of Smithfield, she also loved her town and called it "God's Little Acre". She was a longtime active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 49 and served on the board as treasurer. One could always find her watching a ball game. She loved baseball (Go Nationals!), basketball, and NASCAR.  Her favorite pastimes were road trips, BINGO, and going to the beauty shop.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, 10 a.m. at St. Luke’s Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com.
