Larry Steven Sweet

Larry Steven "Steve" Sweet, 72, of Smithfield, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2026. Born in 1954 in Lexington, Virginia, to Charles and Joyce Sweet, Steve worked over 20 years at Huntington Ingalls Newport News Shipyard, retiring as a Senior Designer. He was a man of many passions, including sports, drawing, reading, history, and NASCAR, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Judith Dunkailo Sweet; his daughters Lindsay (Brandon) Bressett and Kalynn (Dustin) Coskey; his cherished grandchildren, Kameron, Jovie, and Parker; and his brother, Terry (Mary) Sweet, in addition to many other cherished family members and friends.

A Celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Benn's United Methodist Church in Smithfield, VA. The family will receive friends at a reception in the family life center of the church following the memorial.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad.
