Kyle Thomas Cahoon

April 30, 1988 – October 26, 2026

Some people spend their lives searching for happiness. Kyle Thomas Cahoon had a gift for creating it, not just for himself, but for everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Kyle Thomas Cahoon, 38, passed away on October 26, 2026, leaving behind a world made brighter by his presence and profoundly quieter by his absence. A devoted husband, extraordinary father, beloved son and brother, and fiercely loyal friend, Kyle embraced life with an infectious enthusiasm. A gentle giant with a heart to match, he brought laughter, comfort, and joy to those around him.

Born in Newport News, VA on April 30, 1988, Kyle grew up alongside his mother, Trina Wagner, and younger sister, Arlena Cahoon. Together, they were an inseparable team of three, bound by resilience, devotion, and the belief that, with the right people beside you, anything was possible.

Kyle graduated from Woodside High School, attended Thomas Nelson Community College, and later graduated from The Apprentice School, which led to his career at Newport News Shipbuilding. He took pride in his work and was always eager to learn.

In 2015, fate, football, and a little friendly trash talk brought Kyle into the life of his future wife, Erin. They met at Buffalo Wild Wings during a fiercely competitive Carolina Panthers–New York Giants game. After exchanging verbal jabs, they exchanged phone numbers, went on their first date that very night, and the rest was history. What began as a football rivalry became the love story of a lifetime. They married in 2019 at The Mariners' Museum. Kyle was a compassionate, devoted husband, Erin's rock, greatest advocate, and favorite adventure partner.

Of all the titles Kyle held in his life, none made him prouder than "Dad." His daughters, Riley and Rory, were his greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. Kyle was, quite simply, the best girl dad. Despite his imposing stature, he was a giant teddy bear, especially with his girls. He transformed ordinary afternoons into WWE wrestling matches, brought stories to life at bedtime, and loved taking the girls to the park. He never missed an opportunity to deliver a perfectly terrible dad joke, often amusing himself more than anyone else. He celebrated every milestone, delighted in their laughter, and embraced life through their eyes. In Riley and Rory, Kyle found his greatest purpose, and in them, his most beautiful legacy lives on.

Kyle's interests were as varied as they were passionate. A devoted fan of the Carolina Panthers, Duke Blue Devils, Washington Nationals, Carolina Hurricanes, and Dallas Mavericks, he cheered loudly and unapologetically. He loved playing basketball and volleyball, driving and meticulously detailing his beloved Ford Mustang, and spending time with friends. Affectionately nicknamed "Garbage Disposal," Kyle had a legendary appetite and never turned down a good meal. He also had a special affection for animals, particularly cats.

But perhaps what made Kyle most extraordinary was not what he loved, but how he loved. A man of faith, Kyle believed that life's greatest currency was how we make others feel. He lived that belief through his relationships, offering steadfast support, celebrating others' successes, and building friendships that became family. He was someone people could depend on, whether they needed encouragement, a good laugh, or simply a friend by their side.

Kyle is survived by his loving wife, Erin Cahoon, and their cherished daughters, Riley and Rory Cahoon; his devoted mother, Trina Wagner; his beloved sister, Arlena Cahoon, and her partner, Austin; and his treasured niece and nephew, Anessa and Alex. Thomas Cahoon (father). He also leaves behind friends Justin Demps, Trey McBride, Hilario Frando, Marcel Davis, and Phil Dixon, men who were more than friends, they were brothers, as well as countless family members, friends, and coworkers whose lives were enriched by knowing him. Kyle is also survived by his beloved cats, Bo and Princess Kennedy, and was preceded in death by his cherished cats, Sidney and Onassis.

Thirty-eight years will never feel like enough. Not for the wife who imagined growing old beside him, the two little girls who deserved a lifetime of adventures with their daddy, or the family and friends who expected countless more memories together.

Yet Kyle's life cannot be measured by the years he was given, but by the joy he created, the people he lifted up, and the countless ways he made the world better simply by being in it.

To honor Kyle is to live as he did. Be brave. Embrace adventure. Love fiercely. Laugh loudly. Never grow up. Find joy in the smallest moments, and never miss an opportunity to make someone feel important.

Kyle leaves behind a legacy far greater than 38 years, one that will endure in the hearts of everyone who knew him, and especially in the two little girls who will forever carry a part of their daddy with them.

He lived boldly. He loved fiercely. He made life beautiful. And he will be loved for all the days that remain.

Details regarding a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
