Kory Laurene Jones

February 23, 1985 — October 21, 2018

Kory Laurene Jones, of Middletown, passed away Sunday evening, October 21, 2018, surrounded by, and in the arms of, a large group of the family and friends that loved and supported her. Kory was born on February 23, 1985, in Newport News, VA to her loving and caring parents, Mark and Kim Forrest, and grew up learning from and cherishing her beloved sister, best friend, and role model, Kymberly. A distinguished graduate of both Isle of Wight Academy and the University of Virginia, Kory was most known for her smile, love, and absolute beauty. Her smile was one that lit every room she walked into, and her optimism made every person she encountered feel important, loved, and heard. In 2007, Kory married her childhood best friend and sweetheart, U.S. Army Special Forces Captain Matt Jones, and traveled the country through multiple moves and duty stations. Kory was a dedicated Army wife, supporting her family through multiple overseas deployments, and building perfect homes in the different states that they moved. Kory’s accomplishments were many, but she was most proud of her two perfect children, Leaven Monroe, 7, and Kamryn Laurene, 20 months, who she loved and adored more than anything in the world. Kory was a natural born care taker, and an absolute expert home maker, mother, and wife. Kory was smiling and laughing until her last moments, and will be remembered by anyone that ever experienced her walk into a room. She was a beaming example of unflappable love, and a never quit attitude. Kory's eyes only saw the good, and her love could effortlessly transform heavy hearts. Her love of people was contagious, and she strove to make everyone as happy as possible. Kory was led into Heaven by her father-in-law, Robert "Bob" Monroe Jones Jr., and her grandfather, William Hugh Forrest. She waits patiently there for her parents, Mark and Kim Forrest, and Tammi Jones of Surry, VA; as well as her siblings, Kymberly and Paul Carr, of Smithfield, VA, and Amy and Lee Stuart, of Lynn Arkansas. She was also an extremely proud "Aunt Kor-Kor" to her nephews Quincy and Grady Carr, and Ace and Ash Stuart. Her 'Poqouson Family' was extensive, and she will be fondly missed by her grandparents, John and Maryanne Hanson, Jack and Lucy Redick, and her hero, Coretta Forrest, whom she affectionately called her "Mamas-a-while"; as well as a host of Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. Kory was nothing short of beautiful, inside and out. Words can never describe the person she was, nor the difficulty of understanding why she cannot be here to continue to better the world in every capacity in which she encountered it. Every moment of her 33 years was spent greeting every day with intention, sacrifice, and selfless service. Her impact will endure indefinitely, and her spirit will remain in the hearts of all she touched. She will continue to be seen daily through the beauty of her children, who are her ultimate legacy, and carry with them her light, optimism, drive, and spirit. There will be a memorial service for Kory at the International Tennis Hall of Fame followed by a reception at La Forge Casino Restaurant, 186 Bellevue Avenue in Newport, on Wednesday, October 24th promptly at 6 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at 2 p.m. in Smithfield Baptist Church, 100 Wainwright Drive, Smithfield, VA with burial to follow in the Old Brick Church Cemetery, Bacon’s Castle, VA.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Little's Funeral Home, 1515 S. Church St, Smithfield, VA.  Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com.
