It is with profound sadness that his family shares that Keith Arthur Syran, 59, passed away peacefully at his home in Smithfield on March 13, 2024.
Born January 5, 1965 in Virginia Beach, Keith was the middle son to his loving parents Dr. John A. Syran and Charlotte K. Syran. From the very beginning, he was a soft spoken and gentle soul. People and animals alike gravitated toward him and his kind nature. If you ever wondered where your pets had disappeared to during a gathering, you’d surely find them snuggled up with him.
An amateur photographer, Keith was blessed with an organic ability to capture the beauty of the world through a lens. He loved to travel and did so as often as he could, camera always in tow. Upon his return, he emanated pure joy while sharing stories and incredible photos with anyone who would listen.
His appreciation for nature extended beyond the camera, lending to a great love for spending time outdoors – hiking, camping, hunting, and fishing brought him indescribable peace. He always had a folding chair and a fishing pole with him, because “you never know when you might find a good spot to drop a line”. Salt or fresh, Keith was happiest on the water.
While he was often a man of few words, he had a knack for striking up meaningful conversations with total strangers in his work. His regulars grew to love him just as his family did. He possessed a quick wit and fabulous sense of humor. He lovingly picked on us every chance he could and always followed it up with a sweet, mischievous grin.
He was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Arthur and Evangeline Syran, Charles and Theresa Snyder, and his brothers Michael and James Syran. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, John and Mary Syran of Virginia Beach, Charlotte Syran of Smithfield; niece Heather Foley (Bryan), nephews Benjamin Syran (Alison) and Alex Syran; step-brothers Christopher and Andrew Woolard: sisters in law, Patricia Syran and Kathy Curry; great nephews and niece Logan, Dylan, and Avery; and his cats Missy and Cherry.
Family will gather privately to celebrate Keith’s life. We extend our deepest gratitude to Little’s Funeral Home and Officer Kate Wahl for their professional and courteous assistance.
In lieu of flowers, please take a moment to appreciate nature as Keith would – take a walk, bask in the glory of a brilliant sunset, wet a line. Hold your loved ones tight, and always seek what brings you happiness in life.
