Karen Hollinger Kamenitzer, 70, of Smithfield, VA, passed away on April 27, 2025, after a brief but courageous battle with aggressive metastatic cancer.
Karen spent her professional life as a dedicated business analyst, working with a variety of government contractors. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Douglass College and later received her MBA from the University of Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eric Kamenitzer; her parents, Robert and Anne Hollinger; and her sister, Cheryl Hollinger. She is survived by her nephews, Michael Bornmann of Lewes, DE, and David Bornmann of Washington, DC; as well as many other nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and her cherished dog, Hope.
Karen had a passion for home decorating and crafts, and her love of whimsical decor was on full display in her home, where more than a thousand figurines of cows, rabbits, dogs, and frogs found a place. She also had a competitive spirit, especially when it came to family Scrabble games, where she was known to challenge any questionable words.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no immediate services. A celebration of Karen’s life will be held in the coming months.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Karen’s memory may be made to the Animal Aid Society or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
