Julia "Judy" Cathelle Addison

August 1, 1941 — October 24, 2025

Julia “Judy” Cathelle Addison passed away peacefully in her home in Smithfield, with family, on Friday, October 24, 2025. Born in Chesterfield County to Walter and Mary Norwood, she lived most of her life in Hampton Roads, and was the 2nd of 6 siblings. She met the love of her life, Charles, at church in Hampton, and the two built a loving marriage of 53 years, full of commitment, adventure, and teamwork, until his passing in 2016. They built their second home at Lake Gaston, where their family made lifelong memories.

Judy was the definition of love & integrity. A dedicated shipbuilder for 30 years, she enjoyed retirement by gifting handmade baby blankets to family and strangers she’d encounter, playing games and “gallivanting” with her granddaughter Jalee & 2 great-grandchildren Addison and Charlie, and pouring into family and neighbors with delicious food, sound advice, and witty conversation.

She is preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, older brother, Glenn, and 2 younger half-siblings. She is survived by her son, Charles “Chuck”, Jr.; grandson, Cory Little (Lucy); granddaughter, Jalee Bordeaux (Rodney); granddaughter Gerri Addison; and several great-grandchildren. Positive thoughts and prayers are appreciated by the family during this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
