Joseph George Smith, Jr

Joseph George Smith, Jr, 64 of Smithfield, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026. He was the son of Joseph George Smith and Rosemary Behringer Smith. He is survived by his wife, Karen Marie Kinsley-Smith; and two daughters, Genevieve Smith and Patricia Smith; and by his sister, Veronica Tkach.

He was a chemist at NASA Langley Research Center, where he earned numerous awards and co-authored more than 40 patents. He was also an organ donor. Joe was a loving husband and father and enjoyed gardening, woodworking and playing with the family’s cats.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 7:00 PM, at Little's Funeral Home, Smithfield, VA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Isle of Wight Humane Society, P. O. Box 273, Smithfield, VA 23431.
