Johnny “Swamp Rat” Hargrave

Johnny passed peacefully at home with his family by his side. He was the son of the late William Hargrave and Lula Bowden Hargrave. After retiring from the Newport News Shipyard following 37 years on the job.  He was inducted into the Hampton Roads Men’s Billiards Hall of Fame Club.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Lynn Threatt; his son, John David Hargrave; his brothers, William Hargrave and Charlie Bowden; his nephew Danny Hargrave; and the mother of his children, Joyce Hargrave.  He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis H. Cornett;  his partner of many years, Dianne Whitmer; his brother Jerry Hargrave (Linda); his sister-in-law, Eve Hargrave; grandchildren, Michael Hargrave, Joey Barlow, John “Pooty” Hibbard, Lacie Hall, Shane Hargrave and Danielle Cornett; six great grandchildren; and very loyal man’s best friend, BOBO.  A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
