The adventures continued as they moved cross country with three young children and moving every six weeks to six months. The family settled in Hampton, VA after Curtiss Wright landed a contract with NASA.

The adventures continued with annual camping vacations to Cowan’s Gap State Park in Pennsylvania or Watkins Glen in New York or Cave Mountain Lake near Natural Bridge, Virginia. John played softball in both the NASA and church leagues and coached Northampton Little League for many years. He was an avid bowler.

John and Elaine bought a piece of property in Rescue in 1985 and built their forever home. John took great pleasure in gardening and puttering about after he retired. He joined the Rescue Ruritan and was treasurer for many years. He helped manage the famous turkey shoots and oyster roasts.
