Joanne Turner Carroll

Joanne Turner Carroll, 88, of Smithfield, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, surrounded by her family.  She was the daughter of the late Thurman Turner and Virginia Anne Wilson Turner.  She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Wade Carroll.  She is survived by her daughters, Linda Sue Mitchell (Joey), Jo Ray Johnson (Dale), Anne Rainey (Bruce) and Margaret Babb (Barry); grandchildren, Chuck Mitchell, Nicholas Mitchell, Emily Johnson (Sam) and Brandon Babb (Elena); great grandchildren, Cassidy, Lillian, Easton and Dean; sister, Kaye Godwin; and a special niece, Sherri Thompson.  

She was a lifelong resident of Smithfield, a member of Smithfield Baptist Church, the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary.   While never wanting recognition there were many others who benefitted from her friendship, generosity and help.   She wanted all the glory to go to God. She retired from Dominion Bank as the branch manager.

 A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, 10 a.m. at Littles Funeral Home with burial to follow at St. Luke’s Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the burial at Smithfield Baptist Church in the family life center. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 97, Smithfield, VA 23431.
