Jennings Sewell Rowe, Jr

Jennings “Jay” Sewell Rowe Jr, 72 passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026 in Sentara Norfolk Heart Hospital. He was a native of Newport News, VA, the son of the late Jennings Sewell Rowe, Sr and Mary Elizabeth Eubank Rowe.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sandra Rowe; son, Luke Rowe (Kristi) of Smithfield, VA; grandchildren, Alice Rowe and Vince Thomas; and a sister, Barbara Rowe, of Newport News, VA.

Jay was a graduate of Virginia Tech and a Phi Beta Cappa, where he was a Who’s Who in College. He was a Big Brother in the Big Brother Program in Roanoke, VA and coached Little League Baseball and Pop Warner Football. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and especially loved his life at Lake Gaston.

Jay retired as a X82 Construction Director of Submarines at Newport News Shipbuilding in 2015 after 32 years of service. Where he worked on submarine overhaul and new construction ending his career working on the Virginia Class Sub.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, 1 p.m. at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield, VA.
