Jennifer Bates Higgins

Jennifer Bates Higgins, 39, of Hampton, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021.  She was the daughter of Marvin Thomas Bates, Jr. and Judy Pickering Bates.  She is survived by her husband of nine years, James “Jimmy” Salvatore Higgins Jr.; daughters, Sara Lynn Haupt, Kalia Elizabeth Haupt and Lily May Higgins; sisters, Amanda Jean Griggs (David) and Amy Marie Spangler (Teddy Phillips) and her children Emma and Freya; grandmother, Claudette Bates; a host of aunts and uncles; extended in law families, the Higgins and Lyons families; and her favorite beagle “Bo”. She was also preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Marvin Thomas Bates Sr, and her maternal grandparents, Carroll and Shirley Pickering.  Jennifer had a big heart, a fiery personality, she did things her way in her own time. She was a loving mother, wife and daughter.  She loved horses and being outside, music, camping, gardening, and hosting parties. She loved cotton candy, putting puzzles together, and her favorite color was electric blue. She loved to drive and hated being a passenger. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, 6 p.m. at Healing Waters Worship Center, Carrollton, VA.
