Jeffrey Morton Chanter

Jeffrey Morton Chanter, 74 of Smithfield, VA passed away peacefully in his home Tuesday, June 3, 2025. He was the son of the late Walter Douglas Chanter, Jr and Irene Grace Surtman of Charlotte, NC. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Rebecca (Becky) Chanter, children, Erin Pagano (Nicholas Pagano) and Paige Crawford, grandchildren, Riley Pagano, Allison Pagano and McClairen Crawford. He is also survived by his brother Walter Douglas Chanter III (Trey) and Julie Chanter.

Jeff was an avid motorcycle lover from the age of 15 and was involved in road racing all over the Southeast circuit for years winning many. He graduated from University of North Carolina, Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He worked his way up in the motorcycle world before starting a 21 year career at Apperson Print Company in Charlotte, NC.

Jeff became a business owner with Becky in 2003 of Sugar Tree Inn Bed & Breakfast. Jeff & Becky retired to Smithfield, VA in 2018 and became active members of Liberty Live Church. Jeff served on the Safety Team and a Ministry Leader of Celebrate Recovery and Recovery Alive alongside Becky. He served as Treasurer of Motorcycle Missionary and was very active with Broken Chains JC.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 11:00 am at Liberty Live Church, 1021 Big Bethel Rd, Hampton, VA 23666. Lunch will be served immediately following the service. Please plan to join us for Jeff’s favorite meal and family visitation.
