James “Bubba” William Peden, Sr, 88, of Battery Park, VA, passed away on Sunday, August, 23, 2026. He was the son of the late James Quinton Peden and Lillie Mae Stringfield Peden. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Annette Parker Peden. He is survived by daughters, Alva Belinda Mason (Donnie) and Lori Annette Davis (Mark); daughter in law Pam Gray; grandchildren, Brent (Mandy), Brittany, Katie, Don (Jessica), Courtney (Chris) and Blake; great grandchildren, Chloe, Olivia, Autumn (Vann), Caiden (Leilah), Aynsley, Riley (Aidan), Adrian, Caylee, Connor, and Cruz; sisters, Ann Ramsey and Nancy Hobson; and large extended family. He was also preceded in death by a son, James William Peden, Jr; and sisters, Mary Humphries and Jo Carter.
He was a devoted Christian, member, deacon, Sunday School Supt., RA Leader for many years at Battery Park Baptist Church, recently attending Harvest Fellowship Baptist Church. He retired from Gwaltney Meat Packing after 48 years. He served in the Army National Guard. He was a member of IOW Rescue Squad many years ago, he loved the Redskins and NASCAR Racing, but his cat Dawn was his baby. He was greatly spoiled by mom’s great cooking and homemade biscuits every night. He loved his family and friends and our family gatherings. He will be greatly missed, but we know he has arrived at his Eternal Home “Heaven” where he prayed to be.
You will always live in our hearts and we will always remember your prayers at the table, and the Godly messages you shared with us. So, dad this is not Goodbye, but we will see you again one day.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, 2 p.m. at Littles Funeral Home, Smithfield, VA, burial will follow in Battery Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, P O Box 97, Smithfield, VA 23431, the Samaritans Purse Ministry, www.samaritanspurse.org. or the Gideons International, P O Box 274, Smithfield, VA 23431.
