James Curtis Lowe, Sr

James Curtis Lowe, Sr, 91, of Zuni, Va , passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late, Carl Ely Lowe and Lettie Yeary Lowe. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Slate Lowe; daughters, Kim Marie Terhune(Greg) and Dawn Lee Whitley (David); son, James Curtis Lowe, Jr; grandchildren, Amanda(Colt), Rebecca, Rachel, Charlotte and Casey; a great grandson, Wyatt; many nieces and nephews; and his brother-in-law, Donald Slate. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Brenda, Mildred, Sylvia and Christine; and a brother, Denver.

Mr. Lowe served in the USMC for three years until he joined the US Air Force, where he served for 21 years. He was a proud veteran who served his country faithfully. Following his service in the AIr Force, they settled in Brownville, New York, where he worked for St. Regis Paper Company. From there they moved to Brunswick, GA where he worked for LCP Chemical Co and Anheuser Busch. Upon retirement in 1993 they moved to Virginia, where he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He will greatly missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, 10 a.m. at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield. The family will receive friends at a Reception to be held at the Lowe residence following the service. Burial will take place at Albert G. Horton, Jr, Veterans Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the VFW Post 4411, 3385 Beaver Dam Road, Franklin, VA 2851, where he was a life member.
