James Shelton Edwards

James “Peter” Shelton Edwards, 78, of Carrollton, VA, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2026. He was the son of the late James Matthew Edwards and Thelma Lee Campbell. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Cratch Edwards; daughter, Elizabeth Edwards; brothers, Herbert Edwards (Inga) and Robert Edwards (Debra); sister, Lucy Hinzpeter (Rick); brothers in law, Sammy Cratch and Thomas Cratch (Peggy); sister-in-law, Gail Peloquin (Dan); many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jim was a lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County; he was farmer first and was a Life Member of the Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department, where he served for nearly 50 years. Captain Edwards served in many roles including, Chief Engineer, President and Captain. He also served four years in the U S Army. He always had a story to tell, loved fishing, and especially enjoyed driving tractor trailers and working on the farm. Jim is now at peace in Heaven.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026, 2 p.m. at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date at Albert G Horton, Jr. Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the team at Riverside Hospice.
