Jacob Lowell Oliver

Jacob Lowell “Jake” Oliver, age 26, passed away all too soon on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 in Smithfield, Virginia. He was a resident of Smithfield and a former resident of Brown County, Indiana.

 

Jake was born October 2, 1993 in Bloomington, Indiana. He was a 2012 graduate of Brown County High School and went on to attend Ball State University and Tidewater Community College in Virginia.

 

Jake was a very talented chef and was currently working at the Taste of Smithfield Restaurant in Smithfield. His co-workers remember his as “Nothing short of an amazing person, so full of light and positivity. He was someone you wanted to be around.”

 

Jake was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and going to the beach with his family and friends. Jake was devoted to his family, friends, and community of faith. He will be remembered for his big bear hugs, sense of humor, and his love and support of others.

 

He was preceded in death by his twin brother and best friend, Nicholas Robert “Nick” Oliver on August 13, 2018; and grandparents, Donna Von Schriltz, Lee Oliver, and Curtis Gritton.

 

He is survived by his father, Timothy (wife, Toni) Oliver of Nashville; mother Rhonda Oliver (Kevin Cline) of Smithfield, VA; siblings Corey (Ashley) Edwards of Smithfield, VA; Brady Oliver and Alexander Oliver, both of Brown County; nephew Journey Nicholas Oliver of Brown County; grandparents, Kurt Von Schriltz of Brown County, Bobby and Peggy Miller of Smithfield, VA and Orlene Gritton of Brown County; aunts Debbie (Rob) Oliver Dailey, Shannon Pope (Tom), Kari (Jason) Dechenne, Terri (Kevin) McGuire and Kim (John) York; uncles James L. Oliver, Robert (Cherlyne) Gritton, Dan (Tracy) Gritton and John Gritton; and many cousins.

 

A funeral service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Sunday, July 12th at 3:00 pm in Smithfield, VA by invitation only due to state mandates related to COVID. Friends and family are invited to an open visitation on Sunday from 4 to 6 pm in the Family Activity Center at Trinity United Methodist Church. All in attendance will be required to wear a mask. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery in Brown County, Indiana, where he will be laid to rest beside his brother, Nick.
