Irvin Floyd Moore, Jr.

Irvin Floyd Moore, Jr., 81, of Poquoson, went to be with the Lord on May 12, 2023. Dianne loved him as her wonderful husband for nearly 60 years. David (Kathy), Susan (Kevin), and Kevin (Tiffany) loved him as Dad. Allison (Josh), Travis, Jacob, Daniel, Tyler, Christian, and Brooks knew no better Papa! Little Magnus and Oliver loved him as Great Papa! Born on July 21, 1941, Floyd grew up in Poquoson. He was a devoted big brother to his sisters, Lee (Billy) Evans and Shirley (Denny) Ferguson. After graduating from Poquoson High School, Floyd entered the Apprentice School at the Newport News Shipyard. He devoted over 48 years of service to the shipyard and successfully earned the great distinction of Master Shipbuilder. Floyd has been a faithful and devoted member of Emmaus Baptist Church for 60 years, serving as a deacon, greeter, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. He loyally supported the Poquoson Band Boosters and Poquoson High School, where he received the honor of the “Order of the Bull.” He enjoyed serving his community as a committed member of the Poquoson Lions Club for over 58 years. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents Irvin Floyd Moore, Sr. and Naomi Dixon Moore, his sister Nancy Evans and her husband William. Those left behind will continue to hold Floyd’s memory dear to their hearts. His love for Christ and his family will live on through each of his family members. A service celebrating the life of Floyd will take place at Emmaus Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 16 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, May 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Emmaus Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Emmaus Baptist Church Renovation Fund, 814 Yorktown Road, Poquoson, VA 23662 or the Poquoson Lions Club, 10 Willis Court, Poquoson, VA 23662.
