Gerard McGonagle

Gerard “Jerry” McGonagle, age 65, of Carrollton, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, July 4th 2021. He was the son of the late Arthur Vincent McGonagle and Kathleen Theresa Liddell McGonagle. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Janet Johnson McGonagle: daughters, Kristan Mary Price and Karrah Marie McGonagle; granddaughters, Alexis and Keeyle; sisters, Eileen Duffield (Edward) and Marie McGonagle; niece, Alaina; nephews, Michael, Jared and Jason; great nieces, MacKenna and Capri; great nephews, Emerson, John, and Michael; aunt, Sister Helen Mary McGonagle and many other family members and friends. He was also proceeded in death by, his step father, Beryl Westover; parents in-law Johnny and Lorraine Pellizzer; sister, Kathleen Carpenter; brother, Edward McGonagle; and nephew, Paul Vincent Duffield. On June 13th 1956 Arthur Vincent and Kathleen Theresa were blessed with their first baby boy, after having 3 girls (yikes!) Jerry was born in Boston Massachusetts and resided in the town of Brockton, Massachusetts. Jerry was an adventurous little boy with a knack for getting lost. He sure kept his parents and sisters on their toes. In 1968, The McGonagle family relocated to Monroe, Michigan, where Jerry attended and graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1975. August of that same year, Jerry enlisted into the United States Navy, where he proudly served for 24 years. During his service Jerry received many commendations and awards. During his service on the USS David R. Ray, Jerry was promoted to the rank of Chief. Along with his stateside service, he was also stationed in La Maddalena, Italy on the USS Orion and in Keflavik, Iceland.  Jerry was also a lifelong member of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign War), having served in the Persian Gulf War and in Desert Storm.  Family, friends and others whose lives Jerry touched are invited to St. Luke’s Cemetery - 14477 Benns Church Blvd, Smithfield, Virginia 23430 at 1 PM on Monday, July 12th, 2021 for the services. Celebration of life details to follow services In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VFW (post 1138) or Wounded Warriors. Jerry’s final resting place will be at Albert G. Horton’s Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk Virginia. Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com.
