Gerald McCullen, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully passed away at his home on August 15, 2026. Born on March 3, 1938, in Philadelphia, PA, Gerald lived a life full of love, service, and dedication to his family and country.

Son to the late James H. and Elizabeth E. McCullen, Gerald was known for his unwavering loyalty and kindness. He was predeceased by his cherished wife, Ann F. McCullen, with whom he shared many wonderful years of marriage, building a family and creating a lifetime of memories.

Gerald proudly served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1962, during which time he was stationed aboard the USS Chilton. His time in the Navy was a testament to his steadfast character and commitment to service, values he carried throughout his life.

Following his military service, Gerald embarked on a successful career with AT&T, from which he retired after many years of dedicated work. His colleagues remember him as a man of great integrity and warmth, always ready with a smile and a helping hand.

Gerald's legacy lives on through his loving children, Jennifer McCullen and Michael McCullen, and his four adoring grandchildren. He was a devoted father and grandfather, always placing family first and ensuring those around him felt loved and supported.

A service to honor Gerald's life will be held on August 22, 2026, 10:00 AM at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Chapel, located at 12083 Smiths Neck Road. Burial will follow at Newington Baptist Church, located at 6169 Main Street, Gloucester, VA. Family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by Gerald are welcome to attend and celebrate his remarkable life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Gerald's honor to World Central Kitchen, an organization he deeply admired for its commitment to feeding those in need.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at Riverside Lifelong Care and his hospice team in Smithfield, VA, for their exceptional support and compassion during Gerald's final days. As General Douglas MacArthur once said, “Old soldiers never die: They just fade away.” Gerald may have left this world, but his spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
