George Morris “Chip” Smith, Jr., 55, passed away on May 2, 2017 in Obici Hospital. Chip was a lifelong resident of Newport News and 1979 graduate of Warwick High School. He had been employed at Newport News Shipbuilding for 15 years until health problems forced him to disability. Chip was an avid civil war buff and loved to follow civil war programs and reenactments throughout VA. Chip shared the last 16 years with his best friend and companion Nora Davidson. Chip is survived by his parents Morris and Sandra Smith of Smithfield, his sister Carissa Evans and her husband Jeff, niece Presley Ann Shields and her husband Cody, nephew Jeffrey Scott Evans, Jr. And a host of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield, on Saturday May 6, 2017 at 3 o’clock p.m. with burial to follow at a later date on the family farm.
