Faye Edwards Stephenson, 90 years old, of Windsor, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. Faye was the first child born on February 28, 1935 to Bernice and Archer Edwards in the downtown Franklin hospital. Faye grew up at the Edwards farm homeplace on Trump Town Road and was a big helper to both her parents. She attended Isle of Wight School, then graduated from Smithfield High School, where she loved playing softball on teams for both schools. After graduation, she married her childhood sweetheart R. L. (Sam) Stephenson, Sr. on June 28, 1953. She was a lifelong member of Central Hill Baptist Church, participated in the missions’ program and choir, and sang “Bless this House” at the dedication of the parsonage.
While embracing motherhood with 3 children, she worked as postal clerk at Wall’s country store, stocking shelves and as a cashier, and in the diner serving courthouse workers and locals. Later, she joined her husband in starting the Smithfield Insurance Agency as an owner/agent until retirement. Faye loved her Outer Banks home that she and Sam built, and she graciously shared it with family and friends for many years! She loved sending cards, reading, watching races, baseball, and old tv shows, and she will be deeply missed by all her family and friends for her kindness and caring.
Faye was preceded in death by her loving husband, R.L. Stephenson, Sr., her parents M. Archer and Bernice Edwards, son Michael K. Stephenson, and brother M. Ray Edwards. She is survived by son R. L. (Bob) Stephenson, Jr., daughter Brenda F. Starcher, granddaughters Jessica Irving (Aaron), Lindsey Dominguez (Migue), Amy Turner (Steve), grandson Matthew Starcher (Rhonda), sister Joyce E. Bradshaw (Johnnie), M. Randolph Edwards (Susan), sister-in-law Bonnie Edwards, and several great grandchildren, including Emma and Ryder Irving, and Jeremy Dominguez, and nieces and nephews.
