Ellis Franklin Wills, 71, of Smithfield passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023. He was the son of the late Wesley Franklin Wills and Gladys Virginia Lankford Wills. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patty Ellen Wetzel Wills; daughters, Lauren Ashley Wills (Pablo Finelli), Caroline Wills Devers (Jakob); Kaitlyn Victoria Wills; granddaughters, Aubrey and Tinley; sister, Connie W. Reed (Roger); brother, Allen W. Wills; and many nieces and nephews. Ellis graduated from Franklin High School in 1969, attended Louisburg Junior College and graduated from the University of Richmond in 1973 with a degree in business. Following graduation he enjoyed a long and prosperous career in the Mortgage Industry. Ellis was committed to his work but more importantly he was a friend to his clients. He helped countless people through his years and many of his customers became lifelong friends. He was a lifelong Redskins fan, loved spending time with his family, and especially trips to the outer banks. He was especially proud to be known as “Poppy” by his granddaughters. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, 11 a.m. at Littles Funeral Home, Smithfield, VA. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service in the Family Life Center at Smithfield Baptist Church.
