Ellen Carole Williams Jones

Ellen Carole Williams Jones passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 13th, 2025, at the age of 86.

She was born to her parents, Frank and Eugenia, in Powhatan, Virginia, on February 24th, 1939. She was a proud graduate of Powhatan High School, class of 1957. On September 13th, 1958, she married Herbert Jones in Providence Presbyterian Church. After marriage, they built their home in Smithfield, Virginia, where they lived happily for 62 years. During her life, she was an active member and served at Trinity United Methodist Church. In May of 1968, they welcomed their first child, Christy Renee, and their son, Dean Taylor, in September 1970. Throughout her life, Ellen enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, and loving her children and grandchildren endlessly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank Vaughn Williams, Sr., and Eura Eugenia Willis Williams, her brother, Frank Vaughn Williams, Jr., and her son, Dean Taylor Jones. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Herbert Jones, her daughter, Christy Copeland, and son-in-law, Stephen, her grandchildren: Caleb Copeland (Ashley), Chandler Copeland (Madison), Caroline Gonzales (Barachiah), and Dean Copeland, and her great-grandchildren: Ellis, Abigail, and Eleanor.

The family would like to thank everyone who provided love and care to Ellen over the last year, especially Commonwealth Senior Living in Hampton and Medi Health Hospice.

A funeral service will be Monday, August 18, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at Trinity United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends in the church’s family activity center following the service. The graveside service will be held at Historic St. Luke’s Cemetery, Smithfield, VA. following the reception.
