Elizabeth "Beth" Greene McKinney

Elizabeth “Beth” Poindexter Greene McKinney of Smithfield, VA, 76, passed away on August 31, 2023. She was the daughter of the late and beloved parents, Aldie Duke Greene, III and Lula Poindexter Greene of Portsmouth. Left to cherish her memory is her loving and caring husband of 53 years, Roy H. McKinney of Smithfield; a daughter, Shelley McKinney Picado and a son in law, Cristian of Tampa FL; grandchildren, Makayla L. Anderson of Windsor, Joshua I. McKinney, Mia E. Anderson, and Mary S. Anderson of Tampa, FL; three great grandchildren, Elijah Duke Styers of Windsor, Sophia M. Donato and Maliyah Hendley of Tampa, FL. Beth was a graduate of Wilson High School (65’) and Chowan College. She worked in banking for several years and after moving to Smithfield she went to work for V. H. Monette and Co. After that company closed, she worked for Smithfield Foods for a while and then became a legal secretary for many years at the Crook and Edwards Law Firm until she retired to take care of her ailing mother. After the passing of her mother, she worked part-time at the Peebles Dept. Store in Smithfield, where she enjoyed seeing her friends, neighbors, and anyone needing help. She had a soft spot in her heart for animals and helping elderly people. She was a kind and caring person with many special friends. A Celebration of Beth’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, 11 a.m. at the Smithfield Center, 220 N. Church St, Smithfield, VA 23430.  The family will receive friends following the service at the center.  Interment will be held at a later date at Albert G Horton Jr. Veterans Cemetery.
