Edward Ferrell Daniels, Sr.

Edward Ferrell Daniels, Sr, 84, of Smithfield passed away on January 13, 2023. He was the son of the late Hulbert Lester Daniels and Mary Evelyn Ferrell Daniels. Mr. Daniels was also preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Jean Gupton Daniels. Mr. Daniels is survived by his daughter, Melissa (Lyn) Paton (Bruce); son Ed Daniels; grandchildren Jackson, Joseph, Jacob, Benjamin, Faith, Alex, and Mia; and a brother, Henry Daniels. Mr. Daniels retired from NASA after more than 30 years of service as a scientist. He was a US Navy veteran. He was an avid swimmer who taught many adults and children in the community how to swim. He was the founder of the Smithfield Swim Club Dolphin Swim team where he coached twenty years. He was a CPR and First Aid Instructor and taught many classes in the region.
