Dorothy Josephine Somerset

Dorothy Josephine Wiggins Somerset, 84, of Smithfield, went home to be with our Heavenly Father, on Friday October 22, 2021.  She was the daughter of the late Luther Edwin Wiggins and Hazel Irene Greene Wiggins.  She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bill Jack Somerset; daughter, Stephanie I. Scott (Dennis); sons, Bill Jack Somerset, II and Kenneth M. Somerset (Natalie); grandchildren, Ryan, Graham, Christopher, Kevin and Kristen; great-grandchildren, David, Amelia, Eleanor, Isabella, Savannah, Brooke, Jake and Skye; brothers, Kenneth Wiggins and Michael Wiggins.  Mrs. Somerset was a member of Bacon’s Castle Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years.  She attended Radford Woman’s College and majored in Culinary Cooking arts, at the age of 18 she hosted a 4H Culinary Cooking show, weekly on TV, she was an accomplished cake creator and decorator.  She was member of The Smithfield Women’s Club. She was an active member of the Isle of Wight historical Society and a tour guide at Bacon’s Castle.  She was a Master Gardener and an active member in community activities.  She was an accomplished oil painting artist and especially talented at creating ceramic dolls. An accomplished seamstress she made quilts and clothes for family and friends and all occasions. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021, 2p.m. at Bacon’s Castle Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Old Brick Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
