Donald Lance Brady, Jr.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Lance Brady Jr., age 51, who died peacefully at his home on August 5, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

A devoted father, son, brother, and friend, Don's legacy of kindness, integrity, and unwavering support will live on through all who knew him. Don is survived by his beloved children, Ethan and Olivia Brady, who were the light of his life. He will be deeply missed by his parents, Donald and Sandra Brady; his brother, James (Maria) Brady; and Kimberly Bess, his significant other, whose dedicated care and support were vital.

Born in Newport News, Don spent his formative years in Smithfield, where he built a life rich in friendship and community. He was a longtime member of Bethany United Methodist Church and the Moonlight Hunt Club for many years. A 1991 graduate of Smithfield High School, Don went on to earn a degree from Christopher Newport University in 1998. Don dedicated 25 years to law enforcement, serving with distinction and honor. He began his career with the Poquoson Police Department (August 21, 2001 – May 1, 2011) and continued his service with the Smithfield Police Department (June 17, 2011 – March 31, 2023), where he retired.

Don was a true and loyal friend, known for his genuine spirit, thoughtfulness, heartfelt sincerity, and impressive character. Despite facing personal challenges, he remained a pillar of strength for those around him, always offering a helping hand and a listening ear. His kindness and infectious sense of humor left a lasting impact on countless lives.

Don found joy in the simple pleasures: gardening, pursuing his passion for hunting and fishing, indulging in video games, playing fetch with his dog, and savoring quiet evenings with a fine cigar and bourbon. He cherished opportunities to celebrate life's milestones with family and friends and could always be counted on for unwavering support.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 2:00 pm, at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Donald L. Brady Jr to Bethany United Methodist Church, c/o Raymond Edwards, 13088 Mill Swamp Rd, Smithfield, Va 23430 or to a charity of your choice.
